The WG works on a IEC 61158 compliant specification of a set of PROFINET realtime protocols.

In 2004 the WG released the specification V1.0 and created the draft version 2.0.

In 2005 the WG released the specification V2.0 and started PROFINET IO specification V2.1.

In 2006 the WG will release PROFINET IO specification V2.1.
