The WG has defined an application profile for Remote I/O devices with special focus on applications in process automation. The specification is focused on the definitions of a device model, of unique identification and maintenance information, of unique data formats, and of unique diagnosis information.

The final document was released June 2003.

In 2004 the WG reviewed change requests and implementations.

In 2005 the WG released document version 1.0 with integration of implementation experiences, error corrections and changes in the document structure.

In 2006 the WG will prepare a revised version and discuss possible future work at PROFINET IO.
