Based on PROFIBUS DPV0, DPV1 and DPV2 minimal feature sets for master and host systems shall be specified. In doing so, function classes will be set up, to which master systems, used in Factory Automation, Process Automation, Motion Control and Safety, shall comply with. The function classes shall give basic conditions and shall be a help for the establishment of PROFIBUS system technology at the end user and for PROFIBUS master-device manufacturers as well.

The WG started work in April 2003.

In 2004 the WG prepared an internal paper.

In 2005 the WG compiled profile specific information.

In 2006 the WG will support PROFINET IO and release a first version of a specification with scope on factory automation.
