PI News
The PNO office has moved!
A new chapter begins! Due to the planned reconstruction and modernisation of the building, the PNO had to look for new premises not only temporarily during the reconstruction period, but holistically. After the PNO had been located in the Technologiefabrik Karlsruhe for more than 25 years, it was time to go new ways.
After an intensive search, Dietmar Bohn finally surprised the office with very modern premises and the whole team unanimously decided in favour of the object.
New address as of 28 August: PROFIBUS Nutzerorganisation e.V., Ohiostraße 8, 76149 Karlsruhe, Germany
Telephone numbers: The telephone numbers/cell phone numbers you are familiar with will remain unchanged.
Teaser: The new PROFINET Ecosystem Platform is coming soon!
In recent months, the PNO has been working diligently on a new project: The PROFINET Ecosystem Platform, which will go online at the beginning of October.
Until now, there was no dedicated website for PROFINET technology - this will change with the new Ecosystem Platform, which consists of the website and a community forum.
Further information on the new PROFINET platform will be available at the PI Online Meeting on October 4th.
A new liaison: IT/OT convergence by combining IO-Link and mioty
The IO-Link community and the mioty alliance are increasing their collaborative efforts and will cooperate more closely in the future. To this end, they’ve created a joint working group focusing on the adaptation of IO-Link (IODD) data models and their seamless integration into the mioty standard. The aim of this close alliance is to enable low-power wide-area network (LPWAN) technologies for industrial IO-Link applications. The tight integration of software tools, including device on-boarding and the holistic system architecture of the IODD, aims for maximum compatibility.
The combination of IO-Link, which originated in the field of industrial automation on the OT (operational technology) level, and mioty technology, which has its roots in smart cities, smart buildings and smart metering, is opening up a unique opportunity to build a holistic bridge between these worlds and transfer relevant data from the OT level to higher-level systems on the IT (information technology) level. The use of mioty as a robust wireless technology makes it possible to implement new applications in the industrial environment which were previously impossible due either to the costs involved or feasibility. The use of easily accessible and tried-and-tested system architectures and security concepts from the IoT environment is opening up major opportunities for establishing similar systems here, including for the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT).
mioty: innovative LPWAN technology for reliable networking in the field of massive IoT
mioty is a software-based LPWAN protocol for wireless applications developed for querying a large number of IoT nodes over large distances. The advantages of this new wireless technology lie in its high reliability and scalability, in particular in the smart city and smart building sector with a large number of terminals. Using telegram-splitting technology defined by the European Telecommunication Standards Institute (ETSI TS 103 357), data is transferred in multiple packets at different times and frequencies, thereby ensuring high interference immunity and extremely low current consumption.
IO-Link: Globally standardized IO technology for sensors and actuators
IO-Link, on the other hand, is a globally standardized bidirectional communication technology (IEC 61131-9) for sensors and actuators. The greatest advantage is that even the simplest sensors and actuators can be integrated into any fieldbus systems without major effort. IO-Link is the fastest-growing technology in the industrial automation field, encompassing more than 22,000 different products with more than 36 million nodes installed around the world. [...]

SPS – Smart Production Solutions
PI is looking forward to the next reunion with the community at this year's SPS. From November 14-16, PI will be in Hall 5, Booth 210, offering visitors the opportunity to discover the latest technologies and innovations in industrial automation.
At the spacious booth - with over 100 co-exhibitors - visitors to the show will be given insights into the ongoing development of PI technologies, including exciting technology updates, highlights and the future of industrial automation.
One important new feature can be discovered on the booth's Industry 4.0 wall: The new Security Demo, which vividly demonstrates how PROFINET Security works. The PROFINET over TSN demo illustrates the current status of implementation, as many technology providers have already begun integration! The OPC UA Safety Demo shows how safety communication can be easily established even in more flexible plants with changing controllers.
PROFIdrive and the perfect interaction in a sophisticated drive application will be presented by a multivendor live showcase. At least as impressive is the digitization system that shows the virtualization of planning, commissioning and operation.
Thanks to its openness, IO-Link has already found very wide acceptance throughout the world.
The integral realization of functional safety will be demonstrated with IO-Link Safety in a functioning demo system from 7 manufacturers.
The location technology omlox convinces this year with a world premiere: solutions to touch and grasp. Together with omlox partners, end-to-end hardware and software solutions based on the new omlox V2 specification will be shown for the first time in a live demonstration.
With the completion of the specifications and guidelines, all doors are open for PROFINET over APL to be used in process automation.A number of PROFINET products with an Ethernet-APL physical layer have been added to the Process Automation live demo.
Don't miss the impressive multivendor live demo of MTP technology, which was recently added to PI's technology portfolio and allows complex production systems to be built up modularly and reconfigured flexibly. For more information about the PI joint booth and exhibitors, and to purchase visitor tickets, click here.
P.S: You would like to be part of the PNO joint booth at SPS 2023? Spaces are still available on the technology walls. You can find details about the many opportunities to participate in our marketing program through which you can register for the SPS until September, 22.
